Sunshine is in kindergarten this year. We have spent the first part of the school year learning her letters and sounds. About a month ago we started with sight words. She has done really well with them moving her towards this day. The day she read her very first book. Yay! She can read and she is reading well at that! What a sigh of relief for me as her teacher/mother along with excitement. This is a photograph of Sunshine calling her grandmother to share her exciting news. She also read the book for her. What a special day we both will always remember.

Congratulations to your daughter and to you. I homeschool as well and always feel a sense of accomplishment myself when we learn something new.
Tell her that some people from TN are proud of her. Yay, hooray, congrats!!!
Indeed a major milestone. Now academics and life in general will open up for her.
Happy New Year!
From one homeschool mom to another, I can totally relate!! It makes everything that much easier once they learn how to read!!
Good job to both of you!!
I remember when my first was learning to read and struggling a bit. She said, "I hate reading!" "You'll love it one day," I told her, to which she said, "I will not!", voice thick with disgust.
She is 10 now and I can't get her nose out of books...
Congratulations on one of the best of milestones!
That is just awesome!!
I know how great it feels to be part of that process (as a teacher) but as a Mom too, wow : )
Congrats to both of you!!
Such a fun photo too, you can see her excitement so clearly. Beautiful girl.
Happy New Year!
Oh I love when they start to read! The world just opens up for them! I remember Elayna saying, "Mommy, why is everything made in China?" lol she was reading that on all her toys and things she saw at church or at home!! :)
Congratulations...to you the teacher and to Miss Sunshine the reader! A special day indeed for both of you!
I love when they start to read. It is soooo precious.
Congratulations to you both!!! That is truly exciting, indeed. I remember when Sierra "got it", she just took off from there. It made me feel proud as a mom and a teacher! :)

congratulations...that is a wonderful accomplishment for both of you. i know when my daughter finally learned to read i felt that i had accomplished my major goal for homeschooling that year and now they can read whatever whenever and read to younger siblings that is always a perk.
That is great. That is what I thought was my biggest accomplishment. It was like a big weight was lifted once they could read! I know she is going to be so excited, that she will just do great.
Thank you Grandma Leslie and Maury!!!
