We have been applying chalkboard paint to a few of our cabinets.
The tall set will be used mainly for home school and little people artwork...
We also added chalkboard paint to two more cabinets that set above our stove. I love the outcome. Personally I would like to paint our cabinets, but the hubby tends to like the wood.
So we compromise.
Little Man stated he could not wait to ask a friend of his if he wanted to come over and write on his mom's cabinets. He thought that sounded pretty cool.
Here's the info if you too are looking into chalkboard paint.
Eleven bucks per can. Yeap that's all...
We picked it up at our local hardware store.

LOVE it! It looks great and has so many uses too!
What a wonderful idea, how creative! :)
That looks great! DH and I talked about doing this in our dining room; it's such a fun idea!
the chalkboard paint is a fun idea!!!
Oh, love this idea. The first thing I did when we moved into our new rental with its lovely big side pantry with huge door is paint it with blackboard paint. It's so useful for shopping lists, inspirational quotes, menu ideas, etc. And, of course, fun for little nieces and nephews that come visit too :-)
This is a really cool idea, and it looks awesome, too...
i've seen houses with that on the walls. Its neat....I want to do that one of these days too.
I really love the cabinets! I miss you too...it's been so long since we've talked. Give me a call. Love you:)
I already loved chalkboard paint, but now I'm over the moon seeing it on your cabinets- how creative!!!!
What an idiot!! I hate spammers.
ANyways, I've been wanting to do one wall in the classroom chalkboard paint. I love the way it came out on your cabinets!! I would of never thought to put some in there :)♥♥
About Chickenista comment I had a crazy post above her name from a spammer,,,
I always loved seeing chalkboard paint in makeover tv shows. Now it's so cool to see it applied like this! I love the pics of your kids with it. The photos on your blog are amazing, by the way. I've always wanted a chalkboard wall, but the cabinets are such a cool idea!
Turned out great!!!
Nice compromising, too.
Love it! You are making me miss homeschooling :)
I understand totally about the ingredients...it is the same thing here.
One thing I do that helps some budget wise, is try to plan meals that use the same ingredients, and make them up at once....and try to stretch my ingredients, like use a little less of meat or cheese....substitute things with stuff that is cheaper. Then have a couple of those meals for the week, and maybe even freeze some for later on. Anyway, that does help stretch the money...but it takes time and planning before I go to the store..which I don't always do!
Wow! I so love this! Now I want to find a place to do it myself!
How cool!
What a great idea! It looks like the kids are really enjoying it too.
BTW - Love the new pic of you on the side bar.
Catherine,
Thanks so much for coming over to my blog! Yours is lovely, as are your children and your home. I love the chalkboard idea but I don't think I'm brave enough to make such a leap. For some reason I think of paint being much more permanent then it is.
Love this idea! Fun fun fun!
Those look very cool I was thinking about using this paint too. Great job.
How fun! I know I want to do some chalkboard paint but am not sure where... maybe my office as a calendar space?
Martha Stewart had a simple recipe for making your own, which I loved because then you could choose custom colors.
Natalie, I will have to look into it. We love to make our own if we can. While looking for paint I did see some you could add in any color you wanted. The price for it was higher. Im thinking 20 to 25 for the same size can. Thanks for stopping in.
Catherine, too funny! I've been wanting to do this somewhere, but I just can't figure out where! GREAT IDEA ON THE CABINETS...
Kathy
I really like the ones above the stove. Great idea.
That is soo cute! FYI, I plan on blogging about meal planning and shopping from your pantry, so if you want to take a look, hop on over!
And thanks for stopping by my blog, it led me to yours and I am thrilled!

Love that idea! It is great!
Thank you both so much~
I LOVE your kitchen! =)
my son's room has a chalkboard road painted around his room... green under for grass and blue above for sky! Very cutry! we had soap stone to write on it... less dusty!
Come check out a little photo book I posted today... You might find it fun for a home school project! =)
Just Jenn ~
Loved the book Jen. Thanks for stopping in.
Oh, I LOVE that!!! I have a utility closet I've always wanted to turn into a chalkboard, but never have. And I have a garage full of kitchen cabinets I need to paint before installing them next summer! I've got to do at least a few of them like that!!
So happy you stopped in:)
Love the idea and have been wanting to try it! Would it be sacreligious to put them on brand-new cabinets? :)
Do it!!!
