Celebrating Earth day was much fun this year. The kids and I set around in a circle, naming ideas that can help protect God creation of earth. To name a few~ planting, reusing, recycling, choosing cloth before paper, picking up trash etc. I was very proud of their thought out ideas. Face painting, flower headbands, coloring Earth day printouts, recycled worksheets, picking up trash, and writing about it in their journal were a few other activities we did to celebrate. Something I mentioned above protecting and respecting Gods creation of earth. We feel it is very important to talk to our children about the earth as a gift from our Lord. This being the number one reason for taking the steps in keeping it healthy. Something that bothers Allen, is the fad of "Going Green". Its truly about Gods gift to us and respecting that gift. My first memory of recycling came at the age of 7. My grandfather and I took a few bags filled with cans over to be recycled. He talked to me that day about reusing instead of wasting. He then said wasting doesn't help anyone and makes us feel bad inside. I really thought about what he had said and understood it. This could be because in my eyes he could do anything and knew it all. This stayed with me and I too want our children to learn its importants at a young age.
Here is a list of earth friendly things we do around here to help
Using tap water in place of bottled , glass wear in place of paper, cloth diapers in place of disposable {50 million disposable diapers enter the landfill every day
where they sit for up to 500 years}, Saving photos to our computer in place of printing all, Paying bills online, in person or over the phone in place of paper by mail,Turning off the water when you are not using it, Using window lighting in most areas of the house, Reusable grocery bags, Enjoying outdoor activities in place of electronics that use much energy, Making our own laundry soap ( last longer with less packaging), Recycle, Reusing, Compost, Catching water for the garden, Growing our own food veggies Farming chickens for eggs (Saves on shipping and packaging), Clothesline in place of the dryer on many items, Farmers market and whole foods, Locally grown and produced imagine how much less fuel would be spent if there wouldn't be so much transport of food. Plus, the economy will thank you as well, because the money you spend stays in your community, Picking up trash, recycled paper, Compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use 60% less energy. Some of these we have always practiced and others we have made the change. In doing this we don't only help the earth, it also makes you feel good to appreciate your goods of reusing. Another perk to reusing is saving money.
Whats some things you and your family do to help~

Our girls wanted to pick up trash at our local park on Earth Day but family came in from out of town. So great that you are doing this! :)
Oh how I love your blog :) Your Earth day photos are adorable. I do like how you mention to the kids it is God's gift to respect. While I think for some "going green" is a way for them to get on board to helping the environment, I agree with Allen that at least in my own home Bear needs to know just exactly who gave him this Earth and why he needs to respect it! Awesome post!
You've listed some wonderfully simple & easy tips to help with Earth Day!!! Great pics of your kids & showing they care.
We uses reusable bags all the time, shop at the farmer's market, eat fruit as snacks instead of packaged things, use reusable sandwich bags and produce bags. That's all I can think of right now (besides alot of the things you do).
Your family does a great job of helping the Earth! :)
