First I check the cabinets, refrigerator, bathrooms etc. Next I sit and write out a list of fourteen dinner meals. After that I add items for breakfast and lunch. Cooking in a bulk saves us. Each pay period I take a day and cook most the morning. I make a variety of soups. They freeze well and reheat for serving wonderful. Thankfully most of our meat comes from the deer that were collected during deer season. Allen processes and bags it here at home. This along with goods we receive from the garden and our chickens, makes a great help on the budget.
Of course bill paying /shopping day is full of its own fun. We take this as a day out on the town. Not only gathering our goods, but stopping for lunch at a park or museum. What about you? What works for your family, when it comes to meal planning and stocking up until next pay day? Today I am thanking the Lord for my job. My full time job as a wife and a mother. Its rewarding, as its abundantly supplied with joy, love and memories made.

I love your organization and management of all the "'stuff."
well not much works for me right now...lol. I need a freezer to store my stuff in and I don't have one. All I have right now is a small refrigerator. So, I have to shop all the time for stuff. It would be better if we had a cow and some chickens...lol.
wow! We do so many things the same. We use to eat venison...until we moved to TX. Not much down here where we live and we really miss it!
I set up my meals the same way, except I do not cook it all at once.
We now have our Vitamix which has been a HUGE life savor to me in the cooking- on- a- hectic- day - day.
As for the actual menu, I like to ask the kids to contribute one meal idea each, that helps me with the "trying to think of a meal" problem that I can run into. It definately keeps the menu more flowing instead of repititious.
Ah, the joys of the grocery store. I don't mind the store so much as the making the list and checking it twice thing. I love your picture and being a SAHM is the BEST job in the world. I really like my part time job, but if it weren't for the need for the extra cash, I'd be home in a heart beat.
I do the same as you- go through the cupboards, freezer, fridge and bathrooms and make a list/meal plan.
Shopping day is a little different, since we have three kids under three right now, its easiest if I take the baby and go by myself while my husband stays home and spends time with the older two. I get done faster and I can actually concentrate and not forget things :) I'm sure this will change as they get older!
we do much of the same thing. 2 weeks is about how long I plan for as well. Any longer than that and I feel overwhelmed. Menu planning has helped me so very much with living with less. AS well as staying home more.
I like that you make a day of it and have lunch at the park or such.
What a nice thought. We often stop by my husbands work and have a special lunch with him.
Angela, I enjoyed this post. I have a similar routine, but we live in town, so it's not quite as involved (also we go every week). I do get a fair amount of our groceries at Sam's on a monthly trip and just fill in with my weekly trips to Brookshires.
Shannon, What kind of things do you make? Doug is allergic to chicken. I do brown hamburger meat in bulk an freeze it. I will also grill burgers & freeze. But I am always looking for more things to cook & freeze and make my life easier!!!
I kind of do the same. Although , I shope weekly. One week it is for all of our meals for 2 weeks. The next is for the produce and milk and other goods.
Gosh your kiddos'grow tall. specially the two oldest ones...man time flies right.
Well we don't have pay day over here like you do. Yea at the end of the month our paycheck is fillout on the bank but we go to the supermarket every saturday for the big things and during the week I'll buy everything fresh at the grocery, bakery etc. It's so different out here.
And therefor I cook every night fresh meals and hardly have anything in the freezer. Well I would love to pay you all a visit and join in on these marvelous days.
Hugs and have fun Dagmar
I would love to be closer Dagmar! Or even come visit you, That would be wonderful!
