And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39
Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
We love because he first loved us.
Matthew 22:37-39
If we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:12
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
1 John 4:18
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Mark 12:30
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
Galatians 5:22
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13
During this time the Roman Emperor was imprisoning Christians for not worshipping the Roman gods.
Some write that Saint Valentine was performing Christian marriages, others say he helped Christians escape prison.
When Valentine was asked what he thought of the Roman gods Jupiter and Mercury, he said they were false gods and that the God that Jesus called Father was the only true God.
The Romans threw him in prison for insulting the gods.
While in prison Valentine continued to minister.
Saint Valentine loved the Lord and his fellow brother and sisters in Christ. He was willing to risk his life to free the prisoners and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
"No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." John 15:13God showed us this love through Jesus.
This is the kind of love that Valentine's Day is really about.
