Hooray! Its pay day. I have been counting down the days this time. We need groceries. Its funny what you come up with when you are down to being plan out creative for meals. You don't even want to know what we had for dinner last night! The kids know no different. Food is food when it comes to them. Of course being the other adult in the house Allen knows when we are down to scrapping together the last of our cabinets. He never says a word to the bowl of tuna salad missing a few ingredients, crackers, along with okra from the garden, cut up cucumbers and a bowel of oatmeal for the kiddos that don't like tuna. He walks up to the table and says this looks great sweetie with a kiss on my cheek. The emptying of the cabinet dose not happen every time. We have just had a few extra expenses the last two pay checks and with one income for a family of five there is not much room for extra expenses. We get paid twice per month. So by the time pay day rolls around our cabinets are becoming bare. Luckily I am one that does not mind the simple life. I even see the beauty, charm, strength and love within it. I do have days that I tell myself Catherine slow down and look at your life for what it is. Know that this time in our life is brief. This is such a small chapter. I want to soke it up. We will worry about the over flowing of the cabinets in another chapter. This one is too precious to let it pass me or them bye.
As many of my readers know we are a family that leans more towards the natural organic foods. Other then truly growing our own groceries and the boys hunting. I still have a few things left to pick up. Most stores are now offering some natural organic foods. You have to be careful in knowing what products really are legit and what products add this to their label to sell. A friend of mine has been telling me to look into ordering from the frontier she buys from. I have not had a real good chance to look it all over and I tend to enjoy browsing the shelves comparing and reading labels. This is why I am adding an every other week trip to the farmers market and Whole Foods. It is about 40 min away from us but we are there anyways for mass. So this should work out perfectly. The kids and I made a trip last week, here are some photos I snapped while in there. Yes I was thinking about you all even while shopping. Allen also had to see this place. I was impressed by the good deals they had on all this delicious organic foods. Mmmm! The food was so good and the soaps worked awesome.

They smell great and my skin felt soft smooth and clean. I found out while reading on soaps that majority of soaps are really detergents not soap at all. This could be a big reason JR has such a hard time with most soaps we have tried.

He has eczema and with some soaps we can hardly keep it under control. I'm hoping the organic soap helps.
There is one down fall to shopping organic! Having to make an extra trip into the everyday grocery store with a two year old for the few items I can not get any other place. My 8 and 6 year old are really easy to have in the store other then the I want this and I want that's. But my two year old sure is in a stage. I'm going to yell and kick my legs wanting you to hold me mommy and I want to eat everything I see at this very moment. I just don't play into her fit. Yes she does get loud before its all over but at least she eventually sees that its just not working. This was the only way to pull my older two out of this terrible stage. Oh yes one more thing before I go. We have been using reusable grocery bags for about a year now.

I love them for a few reasons. Yes one is the main factor of waste, litter etc but also the strength and convenience of throwing your bag over the shoulder. I found the cutest bags at Mad Butcher of all places. Bright green with a cute plant and world on the side. You see how I travel with groceries. Not too much choice when you have a trunk full of strollers, bat bags, toys etc. The back seat is full of children and my passenger side ends up being the best place. Hey it works!

Great Post! We all have to scrape the bottom of the cabinet at times. I have been glad to find a package of hotdogs in the freezer. It's not always fun, but the kids know no difference. My oldest can eat as much as a grown person, but he loves anything. I think it's the little things like this that make you have pride in your family.
I usually put my groceries in the front, or under other people's legs...whereever I can find the room!
We are on a very tight budget these days too...and Suzanne showed me a website called the Hillbilly Housewife, that has really cheap healthy meals. http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/blog/ You have probably seen her talk about it on her blog...I am loving it, and I have been making enough that we eat one, I freeze one, so I only have to cook half the time. It has been great.
Sunflower market is another natural grocery store, and a lot less expensive than Whole Foods.
Waynette- I love this part of your comment! Its so true! I think it's the little things like this that make you have pride in your family.
Maury- Thank you for the link. Ill try it.
Nicole- Thats great to know. Ill look into it. Thanks:)
I understand about scraping the bottom of the barrel! Since this is a time of plenty for us, I decided to stock up on things that will help our next "lean time". On this most recent Frontier order, I ordered bulk dry foods like organic soup mixes (tomato, cream of mushroom, onion, chicken broth granules), dried veggies, and salad dressing/dip mixes. That way, when we are low on supplies or time, I can put together something and not have to worry about resorting to processed stuff. It's also cheaper in the long run, when you add up the number of servings these mixes will make compared to buying something like a can of cream of mushroom soup.
Pookie- I need to sit and look at your Frontier. I know it will be the way to go. Love your idea of bulking up for lean times...
