Wondering, what this week would bring

As I was getting ready for church last Sunday morning I caught myself wondering what this week would bring. I guess my thoughts drifted here after having such an adventurous week. Life with a two year old always brings adventure into everyday, but some things stick out a little more than others!
As I have stated here before we are still in the middle of potty training. My older two decided it was time to use the potty and that was the end of it. Sweet Pea has different motives. She is getting the idea of not going in her diaper.  As she is not making it to the potty.  When I went in her room to get her up from her nap, she had taken her diaper off and her room was filled with the smell of poo. The diaper was dry. I asked her if she needed to go potty. She replied no. I guess she didn't because hiding over in the corner was her Easter basket, in it was tiny toddler droppings. Lets just say we threw the basket out. We'll purchase a new one next year. Later that day, I had just finished up Little Man's haircut. As I was sweeping up the hair I noticed a large chunk of soft blond hair in the floor. I ran to look for Sweet Pea, she was sitting on the couch in the dark living room by herself, saying Hi Momma!!! HI!!! As I came closer I could see she has cut her hair.
Sunshine gaped the front of hers at this age. I guess it could be worse.  With Sweet Peas being in the back, it will blend in  growing out in no time.
Here's the biggy. Friday we had loud thunderstorms move through the state. I laid Sweet Pea down for a nap and the kids watched a movie in my bed. I washed dishes and did a little reading. How rare it was to have this time to myself.
At about 3pm the winds and rain really started picking up and I heard a little voice saying "momma water." It was Sweet Pea. I told her down the hall " it was just the rain and its OK. Now lets go night night." So that's what she did. After the kids movie was over, Little Man walked down the hallway and started yelling "Mom come quick! It's water! It's everywhere!" The water heater was shooting water out. It's also in the girls bedroom where Sweet Pea was napping. I couldn't believe she was sleeping through this. She must of been telling me about the water and I thought it was the rain. This was about two hours ago! I had no idea how to turn off our water. I grabbed my cell phone and ran into the storm to call Allen. ( I can not call his work from our home phone and have no service from in the house). I'm not getting to him. Water is still going everywhere. Little Man says "mom go under right here. This is where dads goes to turn the water." He was pointing under the house. As I'm climbing under  water is falling from the floor above me. I see a red handle coming up from the ground beside a pipe, So I try it. Little Man runs in to see if it worked. Yelling back to me I hear "yes moms it's off."
Thanking God that we had found it. What would I do with out my Little Man. Finally getting a hold of Allen, all I can say is "there is water in the girls room, in the hall, in the bathroom and Little Mans room. There is so much water, it is everywhere. The vents are like small rivers . " Allen asked where is it coming from. I then remember to tell him about the water heater. This is how shocked I was to see that amount of water in my home. He left for the house right away. Knowing it would take him around a hour, I got to work cleaning out the wet toys, clothes, furniture etc. We stayed up until 1 am cleaning the rooms. Things are looking up now. We are thankful for house insurance. Everything that was damaged is a materialistic item and can be replaced. There are much worse things that happen everyday. So we will just roll with this one and do what we can. After reading this you must now know why my thoughts were drifting to the "What will this week bring?" I do know one thing and that's to listen to the two year old. She knows whats she's talking about.

Oh no no no! Sorry it's been such a week for you guys :( We had our hot water heater burst when we were on vacation- hubby went down to garage to put away our suitcases and came running back up the stairs babbling about water shooting out the side of the water heater, what should we DO?? Well honey, go turn the water off and I'll get out the shop vac and call my parents, I'll pull up the carpet in the hall, let's see how far the water spread... :) Oh man, that was a late night. I hope everything dries up fast for you guys!! TONS of fans. My uncle told us a great system for the wettest parts- one fan blows to another fan to another that blow out a door. We had a fan at every corner in the path from the bathroom back to the garage. Good luck!!

You have such a positive attitude! You're right, things could be so much worse, but what a mess and bummer for you guys. Your son sounds like a great kid : )

I hope it didn't ruin your new flooring.

My friend's son and daughter were building a new house a few year's ago. The DAY they got everything moved in, a pipe burst. They didn't realize it until the whole house was flooded. Vintage hardwood floors, ruined. After they got it all cleaned up-it happened again.

Catherine,

I cringed when reading this as we had our burst one day and it's upstairs. We didn't know about it til we saw water dripping from the ceiling.

Thankfully we were renters back then and they covered all the damage but it does interrupt your day.

Love and Hugs ~ Kat
