Little Man had been counting down the days excitedly waiting his first baseball practice of the year. Tuesday at 7pm, it was written out on his chalkboard. Tuesday afternoon we noticed Sweet Pea was extra grumpy and in much need of rest. Skipping her nap, I decided to stay home with the grumpy one. Allen took the older children to the Stations of the Cross followed by Little Mans ball practice.
This being one of the first practices I have missed the mommy guilt was setting in. Even with the guilt hanging over I knew my other child needed to be at home. You just can't be in two places at once.
At about 8:30pm Allen called calmly stating "Little Man has been hit with a baseball and I believe his nose may be broken." {He was stealing a base and the pitcher tried to throw him out. Hit Little Man. He was safe. Not that it even matters after a broken nose. But, he likes that part of the story.} The next thing I know I am running around dressing myself , dressing the sleeping toddler, grabbing insurance cards and clothes for Little Man. We were on our way to the emergency room.
First setting my eyes on him he was dizzy, losing a lot of blood and swelling fast. Those moments were very scary. I can not imagine the fear I would have felt watching my child be hit and the immediate pain that followed in the moments after.

Thankfully my aunt kept the girls for us so we could both be with Little Man. After setting his broken nose, CT scans and eye exams we were leaving the hospital at about 2 am the next morning. They sent him home with pain meds and instructions to wake him every two hours. Lets just say I didn't sleep. I watched him sleep beside me. The next day we followed up with the eye doctor. His vision has been 20/50 in the eye that is injured. We were told his vision will improve with time. Monday we will be going to see the ENT. All and all he still wants to play ball. The grandparents went out and purchased him a helmet with a face guard. So many of you have been praying and I'm thankful for you all.
Words from his couch " He is a trooper and we have been thinking about him all day".
As we are approaching the end of anxieties over this. I'm thankful there is not more damage. As we are also ending with a story to share with his children someday. Thanking the Lord for keeping my Little Man safe.
