After many years of hating the color and the condition of our carpet but doing my best to be thankful for it. I am excited to announce.......(Drum roll please)......... We bought new flooring for the whole house. The day after we purchased it, I awoke to the sounds of Little Man saying "Hey you know what would be great?! If we could take up all of this carpet in time for mom to wake up." Here I am thinking, its 7 am so surly they have not actually cut into the old carpet. But guess what? They had! Little stinkers got their craft scissors and cut a small place in the carpet. It must have taken an hour with those scissors. They then talked me into pulling up some of the carpet. We worked on the hallway and I said enough was enough. Allen was going to be off in a few days and that's where all the muscle is. We have now been waiting for that muscle and tomorrow is the day he gets off work. Yay !!! I'm hoping we will have the new flooring put in some of the rooms soon. Oh and I forgot to tell you. I was sickened by all the sand I found under the carpet. You would think I never vacuumed. After 13 years of being out in the country the photograph below is what has made its way under our carpet. Getting this carpet along with all the sand out of the house has to help with of our allergies. So have any of you put in this type of flooring (snap-together, floating floor )? Or taken old carpet out? Any tips for us before we start?

So thrilled for you! New flooring is amazing!
If you use glue you will have a huge sticky mess....stapling works best. the worst thing about wood flooring is, you SEE all that dust and dirt under all your furniture if you don't sweep EVERYDAY, several times a day!!!:)
Good Luck!!!
Oh that makes me so happy for you!!! I hate carpet. I like the feel of it but I hate the dust or sand it traps. I too, have bad allergies and I can't take carpet due to the dust.
I can't wait to see more pictures of the progress!! My parents tore out all their carpet a couple years ago and put the same floating floor in and it is wonderful!!!!!!!! A big job but it is going to be worth it!
Congrats on the new flooring, can't wait to see some pics when it's done. If you have a soft head for your vaccuum keep it handy. It is so much easier to just vaccuum the hardwood instead of sweeping.
That is so awesome! I know it's going to be beautiful.
wow that is a lot of sand...you aren't going to have that anymore with your beautiful new hardwood flooring!!! that is so exciting
My husband did my mom's whole house with snap together flooring from Lowe's. It looks incredible! You will love it and it is much better for allergies! I hope it goes well.
Oh and the best thing about it is NO gluing and NO nailing/stapling. It truly snaps together and you're done.
Yay! It feels so good to get a change you would like! And I'm telling you, there will always be dirt under carpets, don't question your cleaning capabilities ;)
No tips really except when we took up the carpet in the basement, we got snap together floors. Just snapped em together and didn't use any glue and they are still holding together like a charm.
How exciting! Good luck.
Catherine,
This has been a dream of mine as well. Something about wood floors just appeals to most people. I wonder if at some point in time, people will gravitate back to carpets again. Go figure! For now, take us along the journey with you.
That is what blogging is for.

in our first house we did take all the carpet out. it took several months. Ours was nailed down. It took forever to clean out...just keep working at it. even if you just take out the carpet that helps and then save the new flooring for later....
Can I say - jealous muchly!?
Fun, fun! Envy envy! =)
Yep... we let the Kerby vacuum people into our house 2 years after we moved in... I vacuum alot... and we had no dog at the time... horrifying how much dirt does not get picked up by our regular vacuum! Exciting!
Sad what makes a grown up happy, eh?!
=)
Oh how wonderful!!! My hubby put some of that flooring in our old manufactured home before we moved in, and it truly is easy. It just snaps together! Oh how your allergies {or lack thereof} are going to thank you! :)
How exciting! The new floor is lovely! Can't wait to see it in there.
Your new floor looks fabulous!! How exciting! :-)
It will definitely help with the allergies...We've never done this on our own. My husband is a "call a pro to do it" kind of guy...It would sure save a lot of moola to do it on our own. It will look so nice when it is done...
We've only pulled old carpet out to have more carpet put down... lot-of-work. ;) I would love to have wood floors, though. I bet it will be beautiful!
I love wood floors! we have wood in every room but the bedrooms and I wish we had it there too. Our carpet is nasty I am afraid to see whats under there:)Good luck installing it. I am sure it will look awesome when its done!
Pretty and very happy for you-Mom
blessings on your project and your little helpers!
