Around the Homestead~

So many updates on the homestead. We have been adding fence to our property for the past month and are thankfully almost finished. We have been working on it when we can, usually early in the morning before the unbearable hot weather creeps into the day.
Poor Allen made his way  into poison ivy.
 Critters~
The goats and chickens love their new space. Loads of green grass to eat and peck around on.
Talking about our goats leads me to the news of our newest member Stormie. She was born in an ice storm, this is why her name is Stormie. She is a six month old that came to live with us a few weeks ago. After crying for about three days missing her sister and mother, she now loves her new home. We also have a new 5 week old puppy named Molly May.
She is spoiled with more than enough love from us all. The hens are laying less and less as the weeks pass. The new chicks are growing taller and filling out with feathers. Before we know it they will be the ones laying those beautiful brown eggs. There is just something about a fresh warm egg waiting for you. Almost like a treasure in a treasure box.
Garden~
I am disappointed in our garden this year.  The excessive heat along with small amounts of rain have not helped. I have also heard something about the lowering bee population. Some of your garden plants need the bees to pollinate for growth. I'm missing my purple hull peas, squash and cucumber. Our tomatoes, peppers, herbs and watermelon are doing pretty good. What about all of you, have your gardens been a little off pace this year as well?
Other news~
In the next few months we would like to add a patio behind the house, updates to the chicken coop, add a hog pen and put up a new clothes line. I can not wait until Allen gets finished with my clothes line. I'm missing having one in the worst way. Hanging my items on the kitchen chairs is just not the same.
Before I leave I also want to add a few photographs of our friends new baby goat. The day we went to visit, she was just a day old..
Other than this the grass is greener than ever, growing constantly. We have beautiful wild flowers sprouting. The sky is bright blue filled with fluffy summertime clouds and that beaming summer sun in the middle of it all.
The kids are running barefoot. In the evenings as the sun goes down we are drenched with humidity, but enjoy the lightening bugs and sounds of katydids chirping. It's humid and it's hot. Some may even say it's miserable, but it's summer~ I wouldn't have it any other way~
Thanking the Lord for summer and all the gifts that come with it.

Aww, what sweet pictures :) Yesterday was our first day above 75 degrees in 270 days. Yikes. Gardens aren't doing so well!

I love your homestead!!! It makes me wish our new home had land. Clay planted a nice garden, but there was too much shade, and then we moved, so he dug it up and now has it in buckets. We have gotten ONE black eyed pea, and about 4 cherry tomatoes, but Noah sure does enjoy it. We would love to come see your home and critters sometime...my kids would just think it was the neatest!!

Your new puppy is so cute!! Great minds think alike....our new puppy's name is Molly too!

Hi Catherine,
Amanda here.
I've been visiting your little blog and I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your JOY for life, your family, but most importantly God. I just finished my first year homeschooling and at the beginning of the year felt like I was stuck in a rut with how to utilize my homeschool space(we live in a tiny house) I did a google search on homeschooling in a small space and your blog came up.
I am sooo thankful for it because...
I have been INSPIRED!
Not only with my little home, but within my life as well.
So,
Thanks you!
I enjoyed the post today. I am passionate about bee's and beekeeping and I agree with you about your garden growing and the need for bee pollunation. My husband and I are considering getting a hive this fall.
I want to comment you on your beeyoutiful photos as well.
Have a great weekend!

Love the photos! There's something about gardens this year. Mine is shrinky dinky. Nothing seems to be doing much growing! Lots of rain, lacking in sunshine. Slugs have been a problem as well. Have a friend with a gorgeous country garden that was destroyed last week by hail. Must be a year of teaching patience!
